  • I’ve recently started feeding my dogs sardines and/or mackerel. My maltese shihtsu had issues with anal glands not expressing by themselves, so I have to take her to the vet to have them expressed manually. Since the addition of fish, the time has expanded to 8 weeks. Fingers crossed

  • I love this! I used to buy dried sardines for my cats but they are so expensive, interesting to know that you can just make them so easily and a tin of ALDI sards is only 85c so very budget friendly. Definitely giving this ago. Maybe outside as I am unsure what kind of smell it will create though haha

  • This sounds really fabulous! It would go down a treat. I just wonder how much it would stink up the air fryer

  • I gave recipe a go and it went great! Will definitely be a go to treat for our pups from now on 🙂

  • How awesome!! I love it! My dogs LOVE fish and it’s SO good for them! Especially sardines! I usually give them expensive freeze dried sardines so I’m super keen to give this recipe a go! Won’t forget the gloves 😀

  • That’s such a great idea! You often don’t think of fish for dogs, but a lot of dogs do eat it and love it. My dogs will literally eat anything! It’s actually really healthy for them too.

  • We used to give a dog we had a tin of sardines a few times a week to help with his skin irritations and it did seem to work. He’s scratching was reducing and he was much more comfortable. I’d forgotten about this until reading this article and it makes me think these treats would be a good idea.

  • I feel like my cat would enjoy this more than my dogs? But id give it a try 🙂

  • I just buy a tin of sardines, 90c in my local woolies. Feed one a day to my dog til they’re gone. Sardine Sunday is a hit

  • I never thought of making treats like this! We have two giant Newfies and they regularly get sardine topper son their foods to help with their coats and heart health. Will have to give some dried ones ago! These seem simple enough and would make good use of the air fryer I forget I have

  • Very interesting recipe! I didnt think many dogs would enjoy the taste of sardines. I know my pooch definitely doesnt! It would be such a great dietary need for them though if mine did enjoy it. Like that it can be stored away and used to top dog food for texture and crunch

  • I just feed my dogs a sardine or 2 for a couple of days each week. 90c for a tin that lasts a couple of days for my dogs, 1 sardine a day

  • Sounds like a cheap and easy way to make your own treats at home.
I wonder how the time/temperature could be adjusted to use the oven, as I don’t have an air fryer.

  • Not heard of the coconut oil addition previous but our dop loves tinned fish especially sardines and tuna.
