  • I had an unwanted kitten of the nextdoor neighbour’s cat adopt us. We ended up adopting him because he was very sweet and they didn’t want him.
I also know that there was a cat that adopted my in-laws. Sometimes outside cats just seem to prefer a different house. If it is bothering you, just try to discourage as much as possible. If you scare the cat away enough times, they will associate the house with a negative experience.

  • I guess you need to talk to the neighbour and see if they are going to be happy with the cat moving into your place. If of course thats what you are happy for it to do. If not you need to chase the cat out every time it comes over. Squirting it with a hose wont hurt it but will certainly make it run away from your yard.
If you are happy to keep the cat and the owners are ok with it ask them if the cat is microchipped and get them to arrange to change the details to yours.
Check how up to date kitty is with vaccines and such things like worming and tick and flea prevention and you are good to go.

  • It depends if you are happy with the situation or not. We have neighbours from across the road that let their cats roam. They come into our garden and kill birds so I put the hose on them and shoo them away.

  • This would be so hard for me, I’d just want to give the cat so much love and make sure they are properly taken care of. We had a neighbour cat that wanted some pats and attention but would never stay for very long

  • Yes, although it wasn’t really an adult cat, more an adolescent cat. We had neighbours who had a free roaming undesexed female cat who had kittens. When the kittens got older they would come over to our house hoping for a pat and maybe some food. We ended up adopting a ginger cat as the neighbours had no interest in doing anything about him. In fact, they were actually going to move out and leave him and his brother behind. We kept the ginger and rehomed his brother. It’s sad when people are irresponsible.

  • I had this with my neighbor cat he visited every morning and afternoon in the garden. I didn’t know where he live until his owner asked if I had seen a cat and sure enough he was her. She told me next time he come to visit your yard don’t go near him, feed or let him in and to just ignore him which I have been doing this whole time. It wasn’t until he had been hanging around looking like skin and bones that I couldn’t ignore so I feed him. I don’t see the cat anymore they have moved.

  • Are you trying to deter it or worried about the owners not being happy and looking for it?
I’d be finding the owners and telling them so they know it is roaming, for it’s own safety.
Don’t feed it or pat it. I always shoo them from my garden because I try to encourage birds.

  • It depends on how you feel about the cat! If it is annoying you and the neighbours seem like reasonable people that wont hurt the cat, go speak to them about it. If you are fine with it just enjoy the cat distribution system!

  • I’m sure there’s a spray you can buy that deters cats, they hate the smell, I can’t for the life of me remember what it’s called tho. Nothing worse then regular unwanted visitors

  • Oh gosh! We’ve been there! Our neighbours cat would sleep on the bonnet of our car and leave scratches on it!
It was so hard to mention until one day they said something about our dog barking at their cat when we weren’t home so we were able to mention it being on our property quite a bit.
I guess it depends if you mind it being there. Perhaps you can mention it to them in a friendly way that there cat is spending a lot of time at your place, they might not even be aware of it. Good luck

  • Cant say i have – have you left food or anything else out at your place that has made it feel safe to come back? I have a daily visitor to our backyard, always the same cat. I’ll often find him lounging in the alfresco on a warm sunny day and run as soon as he sees me. Perhaps, once they find a spot they enjoy, they return!
