Hello!

Do you compare prices for procedures? Shop around?
We were quoted $3000+ for an operation to fix our dog’s Cherry eye at a Sydney Vets (where the dog was living at the time). We got her home to the local vets and had it done, along with desexing, microchipping and vaccination for $1600.

  • Its hard to say. My sister and her partner have had a lot of issues with their pups this year and the vet they go to is quite pricey, but they have been so happy with the service and care. Their little bionic jack Russell was seen very quickly for his operation, gave them update throughout and were really comforting during the process. Priceless.

  • Definitely always shop around. Personally, I think all vets tend to overcharge, but it is always better to find the lesser of two evils. We have found a local vet that seems to be cheaper than all the others around too. When I lived in NSW, the RSPCA vet used to always be the most affordable around.

  • Oh my goodness that is such a huge difference! Just like we shop around, vets can definitely have their own prices as well when it comes to surgeries and things of that nature. Worthwhile getting pet insurance if its something you can afford!

  • Wowza! Thats a massive difference and shows its worth shopping around! We never used to until one day when the vet said to us ‘sure it’s cheaper elsewhere but…’ and we were like ‘what did she just say?’ Sure enough she was super expensive when compared to other vets
