Hello!

what household plants are harmful to pets? I’m always so cautious about gifting flowers/plants so would love to know more!

  • I recently found out that another shrub I love is poisonous to animals. I had hoped to plant it oneda my but now I wont. Its worth identifying any plants you keep in your home and yard and ruling out poison

  • It really depends on if your pets are prone to chewing on the plants. If they don’t try to eat any of them, they won’t get sick. I do know that eating fake Christmas trees and tinsel tends to make cats vomit lol.

  • As I’ve just been getting our lawns ready for Christmas decorations etc I’ve been updating some of our plants and found the name of the one we have- philodendron.
It’s a tropical type of plant but is apparently unsafe for pets.

  • We have a large garden with a big variety of plants. We have been lucky that none have ever affected our pets though many things are considered risky. Luckily the dogs just haven’t be destructive in the garden beds. I never have much luck with indoor plants in our cold climate (heating) so I can’t help there.

  • Such a great question and thankfully there are so many great websites available that list all the ones to watch out for. We actually lived in the same house for years not knowing that some of our back yard plants are harmful, we were just lucky that none of our pups showed any interest in eating them

  • I didnt know about Lillie’s until a friend of mine told me about them one time when i gifted it to her! It was definitely an eye opener and one I’ve been cautious about ever since. Now i try to do my due diligence before gifting plants to pet owners.

  • The best thing to do is to look it up, there is such an extensive list of poisonous plants. My favourite Lillies are terribly toxic. And I just found out that the lovely shrub known as Yesterday Today Tomorrow are toxic to animals. There goes plans to ever plant that bush
