Hello!

Is there anyone here allergic to animals and if so how do you handle it? I’m allergic to cats and I find myself always on the spot if I go to someone’s house who has cats. They often rub all over my legs and I feel rude not returning any affection. I often politely say I won’t be able to pat them due to allergies but don’t want people to feel bad or like I’m complaining.

  • My son is allergic to cats and yet we have 2 indoor cats. I’m forever vacuuming making sure I’m picking up all the cat hair. And recently we replaced our carpets with hybrid wood for ease of cleaning and hygienic reasons. The cat hair doesn’t stick to it like it did with carpet.

  • Luckily I am not allergic but I think you would just have to say something when you first spot the cat. Make some nice compliment about the cat but that you will need to keep your distance because you are allergic. Hopefully they will keep the cat away from you. Then sit down and hope there isn’t hair everywhere.

  • I hear you. My daughter is definitely allergic to pet dander and although she wont go and pat or touch dogs as a precaution, sometimes just the fur in the home, floor or furniture can be enough to start making her feel itchy. I always keep antihistamine in my handbag for those times as you just never know

  • I grew up with cats and dogs, didn’t have an issue. When I hit my 40s, I suddenly developed an allergy to cats 🐈 😻 🐈‍⬛️ 🤧 I’m lucky most ppl I know are dog people, like me, so I’m OK. I avoid those that have cats, but they know I’m allergic so all good
