  • I feel your pain! We too bought a kennel for our dog when we first got him and he wouldn’t have a bar of it for ages!
What I ended up doing was taking his indoor bed and putting it inside the kennel because I knew he already liked it and was comfy in it. I then just bought a new one for in the house.
I then would throw a few treats in the kennel whenever I had a chance in the hopes it would make him more comfortable going in it.
It worked eventually. He still prefers to lie in the dirt or on top of the plants haha but thankfully he will now use it if it rains or it’s cold. Good luck with it!!

  • Thanks for replying. At his foster house before we got him they had like a stretcher. He has one and it sits next to his kennel. His kennel is warm and has no leaks etc. loads of light. Tried putting his blankets in his bed.
Just worried that when full winter comes while im at work he will get cold and sick. His gotten to the stage he has a slight runny nose from being stubborn.

  • Some dogs just absolutely hate it! My fur baby did especially. He would be quite comfortable lounging inside and as soon as he went out, it’s almost like i sent him to jail! Have you tried using the same blanket etc he has inside and transferring it outside? So he still has that scent. Perhaps another option is bringing in the kennel during the day inside so he gets used to it. If he can go inside at night, he might feel more familiar with it.

  • Another thought – can you check in with where you rescued him from – what types of indoor/ outdoor beds he had, the size and blankets/ toys?

  • Thank you for rescuing this lad.
He may be insecure not being able to see his surroundings.
Also have you checked if it cold or damp, maybe try an elevated bed under some sort of awning?
Our foster pups have always loved open beds or crates inside and shade cloth bed outside.
