  • I’d let the groomers or vet techs do it tbh. The first time I cut my dogs nails I must have “just” knicked the quick, he never reacted and there was no blood at first but shortly after I was done he must have banged the nail and omg so much blood everywhere. Again, no pain reaction to it and he was just running around playing leaking blood everywhere! I was bawling, my husband called the vet for advice and she said to scrap the nail into a clean bar of soap and it’ll create a waxy seal to stop the bleeding. It worked straight away. We know let the groomers trim our dogs nails.

  • Lots of walks on concrete or foot paths (heat/weather permitting) can help to keep the nails under control. We do occasional nail trims with a pet nail trimmer and a gradual approach – tiny clips at a time to prevent clipping too short and causing bleeding.

  • You have to be very very careful when trimming nails as they can bleed. We just get it down at the vets for safety now
