Hello!

Wondering if anyone has experienced their cat shed a lot more hair than previously, and if it’s common in aging. Her health checks have been great, eating the same diet, cleaning herself as much as usual, but I feel like shedding her winter coat is lasting a lot longer than usual.

  • I’m so glad to hear someone else has experienced this, definitely puts me at ease. I also relate to the white hair issue, our little gal is very white and loves nothing more than jumping into my lap the moment she sees me wearing black.

  • Yes!! They totally do shed more as they get older! Sadly just like us humans as our pets age there skin gets slightly dryer and this can cause extra shedding! It’s completely normal and nothing to worry about especially if you already have the tick of approval from your vet! Our white pup is 11 now and we literally cannot go out without white hair all over us lol

  • It could be a case of more fur as she get older. Everything came back excellent at her last Vet visit recently, so I’m at a loss

  • Not too sure, not something ive really heard of ever! Is there any underlying health conditions your cat has or potentially have? I’d suggest speaking to your VET as they would be more knowledgeable for these types of things.

  • My cat is still relatively young I suppose, only around 5yrs. I do think that she sheds more now than when she was a kitten. The fur seems to get thicker as they get older.

  • I think our seemed to get thicker, wiry fur as she aged so maybe that means it takes longer to shed. No sure though.
