Hello!

Does your dog do well in a boarding kennel? Last year our dog was in one for 2 weeks and just wasn’t herself when she got back. It took her a month or so to come back to normal. While I am sure they looked after her well I think it was too much with all the other dogs there. She was probably over excited the whole time. We are trying a different one this year that has fewer dogs. Any helpful hints?

  • Awww poor thing! That must have been hard to see. Maybe like you said it was just over exhaustion from all the excitement, did they say she was fine there? My dogs have been fine staying in board the few times we have had to do it but they have each other and so the staff let them out together to play and they go back away together again. Good luck, maybe you can find a place that can send you photo/ video updates or sometjnn

  • My dogs don’t seem to have any lasting ill effects from being in a kennel, however, he is always very hyper and over excited when we pick him up. I find that my dogs are more settled and happy when we are able to get someone to pet sit, so that they stay in their own environment. I think there are websites where people volunteer to housesit – might be worth looking into.

  • I’ve never boarded a dog but have boarded our deaf cat many times and she really enjoys it. I think it’s because we have only out her in small, boutique style catteries that have enough space for her to feel comfortable, she doesn’t have to see other cats if she doesn’t want to, and it has a living standard she is used to (a proper bed, window to look out from).
