Hello!

I’ve heard some people say guinea pigs make a great first pet for young kids, but other people say they’re really hard to keep alive! Anyone have any experience with them?

  • Growing up I had a pet mouse and he was super cute and adorable. They are smaller so require less food and a smaller cage. Sadly they only live for around a year.
My daughter recently got Guinea pigs and wow! They are so different. Firstly they can live for 10 years so be prepared for a long term commitment. They require a big cage, most likely outdoors in the elements so be wary of cats etc. If you do manage to keep them indoors be warned they SQUEAK a lot and they eat all the time so make room for a big bag of food. That being said they are a great beginner pet but it’s up to you what works for your family. Good luck
