We had the same issues and the only thing the helped was getting our house sprayed and washing the bowls up as soon as our dogs have finished eating.

If you are talking about inside the house then you can follow their trial and find where they are tracking from. There is an ant bait that I find excellent. Its called Talon gel and comes in a syringe. You just put a small amount somewhere that they are tracking and they will flock to it. They eat the bait and take it back to the nest. In a couple of days they will vanish. Obviously make sure to put it where pets wont reach.
