Anal gland issues

Hello!

My maltese shihtsu has to have her anal glands manually drained by a vet every 8 weeks. She’s 13yo and has only required this for the last 5 years, so she wasn’t born with this issue. I’ve done all the dietary options that didn’t make a difference. I’m currently trying a product called NAS anal gland supplement which seems to have reduced blockages (fingers crossed it keeps doing this) Just wondering if anyone has tried something that I haven’t, that makes a difference to needing manual drainage?

Aww poor Hun. My sisters dog, a Japanese Spitz, was having ongoing issues and surgery was the next option. Thankfully it went extremely well and she’s happy and not dealing with these issues. Discuss with your vet what might be the best option

Oh no the poor baby! Our boy had an issue and the vet was able to help and it’s been fine since! Hopefully your baby comes good soon too

Oh no, your poor pup. I feel for you and your puppy. My pussycat Kingston had a urinary blockage for over a week, just recently actually, and it cost us nearly $700 in vet fees and another $150 in a special urinary diet food. I hope your dog gets better soon. Sending virtual hugs.

I have a friend whose dog has this issue and she was shown how to do it herself. Not something I would want to do but those Vet visits can get very expensive. Good Luck.

Oh that poor darling! I dont have any advice in this area but it sounds like the supplements they’re taking is helping which is wonderful! Sometimes just getting advice and reading on pet forums from other people can be insightful!
